Reference and morphology*

The dominant tradition in analytic philosophy of language views reference as paradigmatically enabled by the acquisition words from other speakers. Via chains transmission, these connect referrer to referent. Such a picture assumes notion word stable mapping between sound and meaning. Utterances are constructed out such mappings. While this is both intuitive historically distinguished, various trends programs that have developed over last few decades theoretical linguistics suggest an alternative.
